Good news and bad news!

Well John finally got his answer this week, and it's not exactly the news that I wanted to hear. He'll be deploying to Bahrain for a whole year and I can't go! I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that he'll be gone an entire year, so I'm still a little emotional about the whole thing, but I'm so glad it's not Iraq or Afghanistan!! He found out today that he's going to Bahrain and he will report there June 14th. He hasn't even been back a year from his last deployment and already he'll be gone.
I'm trying to stay positive, afterall I knew what I was getting myself into when I married him. At work there is actually three other girls who have boyfriends or husbands that are also going away, so at least I'll have support. We are calling ourselves the "lonely hearts gang!" So the next few months are going to be busy as we tie up loose ends, spend lots of time together and I need to finish up my classes. Life feels a little crazy at the moment. Anyway I just wanted to keep you up to date...

I remembered something!!

So after my last boring entry I remembered that I did have something to tell those who read this. John finally found out that his extension request at the hospital was denied so now he has to start looking for a new duty station. At the moment he's not sure where he's going to go and we don't even know if he'll have the option of taking me with him. There is the possibility of Iraq or Afghanistan for a year, but I'm hoping that he can go somewhere else and that I can tag along with him. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that it's not Iraq or Afghanistan.

Just another week!

Just thought I'd let you know about my uneventful week. At times I wish I had more to tell you all...but there are weeks where we just don't do anything out of the ordinary. This week was one of them. Today is another rainy day here and it's nice to just laze around indoors. I have a mound of study to do, but it's the last thing that I want to do.
Monday was a holiday for John, but not for me. I had to go to our Professional Development Day. It has to be the most boring day ever. In a way I think it would be more benefical to give us that day to work on our rooms and all the other stuff they expect us to do, but I don't think that will ever happen so I just have to grin and bear it!
The new season of Big Brother has begun here and it's John and I's favourite show. We plan our night around it, making sure we're ready for bed before it starts so we can watch. This season they have teamed people up as couples so it's all full of drama already and I love it!! (See I told you it was a pretty uneventful week!
So that's about it...I hope to have something a little bit more exciting to write about next week!!

My Valentine's Day

Remember my little tirade about flowers a few weeks back!?! Well John more than made up for it this Valentine's Day when I received a beautiful bouquet of roses at work! It totally made my day and my little babies also loved to see them. It was funny because I got them on my lunch break and bought them back into the room while they were sleeping. When they woke up they immediately noticed them and would constantly stop to look at them. I guess I need to tell John that I need flowers sent to work more often!

We had the craziest weather that day! We went from basically a Summer like day to the coldest, wetest day I've seen here in a while. In the mountains surrounding San Diego there was snow and people were stranded in their cars and all sorts of other crazy stuff. It took me forever to get home, so John and I decided to cancel our going out dinner plans for a night in where it seemed to be safer and warmer! Instead we settled for one of our favourite meals and an early night. Today we were back to sunshine and warmth! It's still a little cold, but nothing like the day before.

So the weekend is here and I have no class tomorrow. I still have a mountain of study to do however, so I'll be spending a lot of time on that. On Monday it's a holiday here (Presidents Day) for some, but that doesn't include me. Instead of giving us a day off we have to go in for a training day. One of the worse things about this country is that they have holidays, but not everyone gets them. John of course gets a day off and has been enjoying rubbing that fact in!! I guess I'll have to find myself a government job so I can enjoy all the holidays too...wish me luck for that!!

A Week of Nothing Special

Well another week has gone, and it passed with no great happenings! I've been battling a head cold now for what seems like weeks and this week it was one of those bad ones. It really is the pitfall of working with kids, especially the infants because their noses are running all the time. I managed to get some early days to go home and sleep which was great...but not so great when you don't get paid for it. I'm a little bummed with my job at the moment. Working for a big corporation definately has it's problems. At the moment our enrollments are down so in order to maintain the giagantic profits Kindercare makes they are cutting everyones hours. We have lost one girl already and it probably won't be long before more start quitting because they're not getting enough hours. We actually had one of our big bosses in this week and when our director told him about the hours situation he told her that he didn't care.
School is going fine although I need to get motivated on the study! My class on Saturdays is a little crazy. My professor seems to have extremely high standards and I'm not sure anyone really knows just exactly what she wants. I guess we will all find out once we get our first assignment back! My Wednesday night class is a lot less stressful. A lot of my assignments are worked on in class, so I'm happy with that. This week we are doing a whole bunch of science experiments which should be fun. My group is in charge of making flubber!
We've had Dakota over this weekend which has been nice. At the moment her and John are out washing the cars. Last night we made our own band on Rockband! John went to bed early so our band was called "THE GIRLZ!!!". Dakota is much better than me on the drums! I gave it up around 12:30 this morning and she was still wanting to play!
Anyway I've included a photo that I took of myself today so you can all see my new haircut that I got yesterday! Can you believe that after all these years of straight hair I have some kind of wave in the back which gives my hairdresser a hard time! She does a good job of cutting it though so much hair remains looking straight!

Back to School

Well this week I'm back to school and it looks like I'm going to be in for a very busy semester!! I have two classes...one on Wednesday night and the other on Saturday afternoons. In my Saturday class I have come across a girl who is from New Zealand so that was a great suprise. I heard her speak in class and I couldn't believe my ears!! I guess she did the same thing when she heard me speak because at the end of class she asked me where I was from before I could. It is so nice to hear a familiar accent and have someone in the same situation as I. She is also married to a sailor...I'm looking forward to catching up with her again.

Yesterday we also became members of Costco which was kind of exciting!! It's this great big warehouse store where you can buy everything and anything in bulk. We have saved a bundle by buying our meat products there! You can even buy your coffin there! Anyway I had lots of fun looking around at all the various items and tasting all the samples they have on offer.

I also took some more photos of our house. This week is our living room/dining room. I guess the pictures made it look smaller than what it feels...but it's home to me. We still haven't painted yet, so if you have any colour ideas please let me know!!

My Flowers

This week one of the girls I work with totally made my day!! She bought me in some flowers because she missed my Australia Day lunch! I was so suprised and so happy!! I have a husband who just doesn't seem to get how much a bunch of flowers can make a girl happy. I set them up in my rarely used vase and didn't tell him that I got them. It took him about an hour or two before he even noticed them!! So here they are for all to enjoy!
