John's Week!

John receiving his award!

So this week we had John's graduation which was a really nice ceremony! Dakota was able to make it and she looked really nice. John also received a special award because he had one of the best grade point averages in his little field. The 5Th district (I think that's the police district the school belongs in) named the day "Johnny Douglas Day" so it was a great honour for John. Just before going into the ceremony John received a call telling him that he had also got his promotion at work. He is now a senior chief! It was a pretty big achievement to get it because the number of people applying for it increased where as the number of positions had decreased. His pinning ceremony (I think that's what he called it) is next Friday! After his graduation we went out to eat and had a great time.

Me and John...our body language looks all wrong! (smile)

John and Dakota!

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend here so we get Monday off. It's a little sad here because they use the day as a big excuse for sales. I can't imagine Australia doing that with ANZAC Day! We are using the time to look at baby furniture. With the realization that John is leaving at the end of July we need to start getting organized. I especially want all the big stuff purchased before he leaves as I don't want to be putting it together all by myself. I also want John to feel as included as possible! We now have our fingers crossed that with the promotion it should put him in a better position to come home for the birth.
Yesterday was my final class, and it feels so great to be done, especially that class! I finished with two A's so I'm really proud of that! I had prepared myself to be happy with a B in my Saturday class because my professor was so tough, but I actually went over the 1000 points required for an A, so I was a little shocked, but happy. There was only three of us that went over. I got out of there as soon as I got my grade! I won't be going back to school now to possibly some time next year. The fall semester finishes right around the time the baby is due so I'm not going to stress myself out with trying to finish classes before I give birth.
One exciting thing is that in November I'm hopefully going to get to see the New Kids on the Block! I'll be 8 months pregnant by then, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to go see them! I'm still a fan and a bunch of the girls from work are too, so we're all planning on going. Tickets go on sale in June, so fingers crossed we can get some. In some places they sold out in minutes...who knew they would still be the hottest selling ticket in town!

Tuesday Catch Up

We had a rather uneventful weekend, so I haven't updated the blog since my doctors visit. We had a really hot weekend so we made the most out of our air conditioner and hung out at home. On Saturday I was not feeling great at all and thought that I might be having a touch of morning sickness, but I didn't throw up. I had to go to class to, so looking terrible helped with my excuse for missing class the week before. This Saturday coming is my last class and I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about that!
John got the windows on my car tinted on Friday and it's taking a little getting used to. When I go to work in the mornings it's still kind of dark, so that was the tough one on Monday! It really looks nice though, and the car is a whole lot cooler so I'm happy with that.
Tomorrow John is graduating from school with his Associates so I'll be sure to get some photos of that. He is also getting an award for having the best grade point average in his degree so I'm very proud of him. All those nights at school are paying off for him. He is looking into starting his whatever is next (I can't remember the name) and hoping that he can do on-line classes while he deploys so I'm sure that will keep him busy!
Nothing new to report on the baby front. I'm just incredibly tired all the time. Like right now it's 5:19 pm and I'm already ready for bed!!

Dr's Appointment

So yesterday I had my first appointment with the doctor and I got to see the baby!! It was the greatest thing ever!! The baby was moving his/her arms and legs and I also got to hear the heart beat. I guess it made it all seem very real! With not the slightest hint of feeling sick I was starting to wonder if I was even pregnant, but seeing our little baby was a big wake up call! I'M ACTUALLY GOING TO HAVE A BABY!!
My due date has changed to December 12, so I'm only 9 weeks and 6 days. So far everything looks fine and the baby has a strong heart beat. My next appointment is June 17, but I won't find out the sex until we have a scan around week 20!
Anyway I'm going to keep this short as I have a lot of study to get done. I just wanted to show you all the first pics of my baby!!

Three Years Tomorrow!

Well tomorrow marks three years since John and I got married...where has the time gone! In those three years we've probably spent close to half of it apart thanks to immigration and deployments! This time last year John was in Kuwait and I can't even remember what I did that day. So last night our plan was to go out and have a great meal to celebrate! We chose to go to Bondi, and I was so looking forward to some lamb and John the beer. We got all dressed up, something we rarely do these days and got into the car and headed off down town. When we got there we discovered that the Padres (the local baseball team) were playing which meant that there was even more people than normal down town. After driving around looking for a park for approximately 45 minutes we decided this was not going to happen and we'd go eat else where! I couldn't believe how many parking structures were full last night!
Next we headed over to Little Italy which as you can imagine is an area in San Diego with lots of Italian restaurants. After getting a little lost, then driving around there looking for a place to park we decided this wasn't a good idea either, so we begin to head back towards home, both feeling a little pissed off and rather hungry. We decide to go to Red Lobster...we get there and there so many people waiting that they are outside the restaurant! This is when the penny drops and we remember that everyone is probably out for Mother's Day! So then we decide to just go to our local Mexican restaurant. We were way over dressed for that, but we just wanted to eat by this time. We get there at 8:45 and are told that they stop serving at 8:45! By now we've lost all anniversary spirit and just want to eat, so disheartened we begin to drive home. On the way we stopped by our local pizza place (it's called Papa John's) and go in a order a pizza.
By the time we had got home we had spent roughly two hours in the car driving around aimlessly and had wasted about a quarter tank of petrol, which is no laughing matter with the prices the way they are. Once we got home and were in our PJ's we laughed about the whole night and sat down and enjoyed some of the best pizza I've had in a long time. Even though it didn't turn out to be the night we had anticipated, we were together, and for us that was all that mattered.

Our anniversary meal!
So for anniversary gifts John got the latest Call of Duty game for his Xbox! He has been enjoying that since yesterday. Once he learns his way around the game a little more he'll be fighting people all over the world when he goes on line with it! As for me I got some perfume. I finally got a bottle of Issey Miyake so I was happy. John had actually granted my one wish in life which is to buy a Coach bag, but when we got there I couldn't find one I liked, and couldn't bring myself to spend $200 plus on something I didn't fall in love with! Tomorrow we'll just have a quiet night in. American Gladiators starts up again so we'll be watching that!
Everything is fine baby wise. I have experienced no morning sickness (sorry Amanda) and at times wonder if I'm actually pregnant at all! I've come to the realisation that I am because my pants are beginning to get a little tight! My next appointment is this week so I'll have details next time I write!

Not a lot happening!

John and I after our day at Bondi for ANZAC Day...John is a little tipsy!

Me from that day!

Well another weekend is coming to an end and it's been a good one. I've been busy with school and I'm going to be so glad when that is over! I have about three weeks left and a lot of work to get done before that. The crazy thing about it is that most of the work I have left to do is just for one class. My class on Saturdays has been the worst class ever!! I've probably told you already numerous times, but I have an extremely particular teacher who drives me crazy! I'm so glad my other class was an easier one because I don't know how I would have gotten the work done. For my Wednesday class this week we're making ice cream...can you believe my luck!
We had Dakota over this weekend and she was told our good news. I think it took a while to sink in for her, but I think she's OK with it...I guess we'll find out the extent of her thoughts once the baby is here. It was funny because John said at first that we were adding to our family. Her first guess was, "You're getting a pet", then "You're adopting", then "I don't know"! When John actually said we were going to have a baby her reaction was "OK"...I was a little panicked! We have a running joke here that we are going to call the baby Banjo. Any reference to a baby, even before I was pregnant was always Banjo this and Banjo that, so her next reaction was, "You're not really going to call the baby Banjo?" John had a talk with her yesterday while I was at school just to let her know that her place in our family was still the same and I think that has helped her a little.
Today we went to see the first big movie for the summer. We went to see Iron Man and it was a pretty good movie. Robert Downey Jr is excellent!! It got a little long in places, but over all I liked it. John has been very excited about going to see it and it didn't let him down! Next up is Indiana Jones, then we definitely want to see the new Batman movie. We saw a preview on a DVD last night and it looks fantastic. I think Heath Ledger is going to be excellent in this! It starts some time in June or July here.
As for baby news everything is going fine. I haven't really been sick at all, just moments when I feel like I could throw up. If my due date is correct I should almost be out of that sick phase, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get sick. My next appointment is May 14Th so I'll let you all know what happens then. I want to thank everyone for all the congrats that we've gotten...makes me feel very special that you are all just as excited as we are!
