Australia Day - San Diego Style

Well today is Australia Day and even though I'm a million miles away I still like to acknowledge it! It's actually one of those days where I find myself a little homesick, so I made sure I did something to keep me from feeling blue. I went out to lunch with some of the girls from work. We went to an Australian bar here called Bondi. It's one of my favourite places in San Diego because I get a little touch of home. Today I had some sausages and some Aussie beer....what more could a girl ask for!! Cassie (one of the girls I work with) was daring and order a meat pie, which she loved. It was a really good day. I took my camera but didn't take any photos, so I guess I'm not that good a scrap booker yet! I guess next time!

A Sad Day for San Diego

Well I just got through watching the football, and unfortunately the Chargers lost. All the sports casters were saying that they didn't stand a chance, but they kept the score close so I think the Chargers did better than anyone anticipated! I guess there is always next year. Earlier this week John and I went out and bought ourselves jerseys to support the team. I won't tell you how much we paid them! I guess it's best to buy team merchandise when your team is down and out. Unfortunately I left my camera at work, so I'll have to get photos of our new prized possessions next week.
John spent most of the week in Washington DC this week. He went over there with a few other guys to tour the hospitals there and look at their security. Coming home ended up being kind of tough because his flight got cancelled due to bad weather and he arrived home a day later. I spent most of the week trying to kick my cold so I missed not having someone to look after me. I'm still not 100%, but at least I have my voice back.....Until next week!

Has a week gone by already!?!

Well I was going to make an effort to write on my blog more often, but I guess time just got away from me! It's been a busy week where I almost got to work a full 40 hours. We have been a little short on infants lately so I've had my hours cut....which kind of sucks as I don't get paid for going home early. This week however one of our little darlings came back from his holiday/vacation (depends on which country you're from) so I got to work a full day. This week we are also having some new babies start so I should become very busy!!

Today was a big day for the city of San Diego!! The Chargers beat the Indianapolis Colts in their play-off game, so we're now only one game away from the Superbowl!! Unfortunately the New England Patriots stand between us and the Superbowl and they haven't lost a game all season, so it's going to be a tough one! When we were dropping Dakota home today there people out in their cars waving their flags and stuff. There are a lot of excited and happy people in San Diego today.

I thought I'd begin to show you all around our home. So far I've taken some shots of our little court yard and I'll continue to take some more photos so you can see what our house looks like. We live in a brand new development which holds a little over 100 homes. Most of them are completed now and there are not too many empty ones left. They are little condos, or townhouses. We have a four bedroom one and are at the very end of a group of six so we are away from the street. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and our neighbors keep to themselves unfortunately. I'm finding that most people here are no where near as friendly as us Aussies!! (no offense to any American readers!) Anyway I have a little garden of cacti and have been pretty successful at keeping them alive. Most of them I've raised from tiny little plants, so I guess I'm doing something right. I took the photos around Christmas time so you see my little Mickey door hanging thing! We got that at Disneyland.

I got the idea from my cousin Amanda to start a blog. I started out glancing at her occassionally, then found myself checking hers almost daily to see what she was up too! Now that I live a million miles away from everyone I think it's a great idea to let you know what's going on with me and become a little more informed than just the occassional email.

So I'll start out with my day today. It was a rainy day in San Diego. The perfect day for staying indoors! John is very busy at the moment with two intersession classes so he was busy studying. I spent the day scrapbooking and playing with my two new addictions, facebook and myspace. If you haven't already check out my pages!!

Tomorrow is a big day for San Diego as the San Diego Chargers have their playoff game! We are playing the Tennesse Titans, and I think most of the city has their fingers crossed that we will win. We got to the playoffs last year only to suffer a humiliating loss in the first round. I have become a fan through having no choice but to watch with John. I still don't understand everything....but it can be fun! I have John's Chargers shirt washed and ready for the big day. He thinks it their lucky charm...although some games he's worn it and they haven't been so lucky.
